What happens if you don't wake up in Shadowheart? ›

Shadowheart can be found lying unconscious just ahead on the beach near the Abandoned Ruins. Wake her up and she will thank you for saving her and she can join your party. If you don't see her or wake her up, she will be found in the Druid's Grove, where she will still offer to join you and still offer her thanks.

If you fail to save her on the ship, she'll be in a pod on the beach. If you don't save her there, she appears in the Grove. If you don't talk to her there, she eventually finds your camp and joins you. If you rush to the Goblin Camp without her, the artifact magically comes to your rescue.

However, if you don't manage to free Shadowheart from the Nautiloid, fear not, as you'll be able to find her near the Overgrown Ruins Waypoint, just north of the beach. Her attitude to you here will be slightly more hostile, but she'll still agree to join with you nonetheless.

You can convince her to leave a little room for you, which will get you a minimised relationship, but you can't fully romance Shadowheart unless you save the Nightsong. Doing this will cause her to become a Cleric of Selune, freeing her heart to find true love with your character.

While it's technically possible to romance Shadowheart if you didn't rescue her from the pod, she'll like you a lot more if you take the time to free her on board the nautiloid.

Any character can sit on the bench, but it's best to let Shadowheart do it for story purposes. A strange figure will appear and scold Shadowheart for her betrayal. It's revealed that she's speaking to a projection of Viconia deVir, Mother Superior of the Disciples of Shar.

TIP: It's useful to have Shadowheart or Astarion in your party for this journey because they will offer dialogue to provide more context to this area you're exploring. This is not a requirement, though. You'll find a gate and Arabella standing outside, yelling for her parents.

Can Shadowhearts' parents be saved? ›

You can choose to save Shadowheart's parents on either path (Shar or Selune). Both paths will lead to the same outcome with this choice: Shadowheart's parents will be freed and brought to camp to join you for the remainder of the game.

To free Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3, head into the room east of the pod. Head to the corpse lying at the other end of the room and pick up the Eldritch Rune. Head back to the console to the right of Shadowheart to use the rune. Place your hand on the console, then use the command to 'Will the pod open'.

If you decide to leave Gale to his fate, he'll slip back into the portal, as if you failed the two checks, and you'll miss your chance to recruit him here. We're unsure if Gale shows up again, but given Gale's Companion Quest, we can assume he might show up again in Act 2.

Showing mercy after battle and using Persuasion or Deception rather than force boosts Shadowheart's approval in multiple scenarios (though trying to sweet-talk an enemy of the party might not always be the way to go). You can also level up your relationship by showing kindness to animals.

Nothing happens, you just leave her there and catch up with her later. It's doesn't matter whether you free her or not.

Regardless of whether you attempt to free Shadowheart or not, you'll meet her again shortly after escaping the Nautiloid and landing on the beaches below. She'll join your party either way, but failing to save her on the Nautiloid will move her approval rating down, which is bad if you want to romance her.

If you do not bring Shadowheart along for this part of the quest, you cannot kill the Nightsong. Furthermore, Shadowheart will likely leave your party since you cost her the chance to become a Dark Justiciar without letting her have a say in the matter.

The bigger risk is a Total Party Kill, which will signal an immediate Game Over screen. The loss of Shadowheart's life can be an easy trigger for a TPK, sacrificing the party's main source of healing in most campaigns, but it can be worthwhile in very specific schemes.
